Scandinavian interior design has become über trendy the past years and I’m forecasting that the trend is here to stay for a while. The simplicity and thought charm that goes into the characteristic of the style. Here’s how you create the style.
Light Floor – Scandinavians has mostly wood floors, wall to wall carpet never took off in Sweden. Lately, white floors are very trendy and you can find the wood floors in different finishes such as blank or matt. Lighting is a very important factor in the Scandinavian interior design. Scandinavians live many months in darkness, white floor helps the light bounce better in the space and make it feel lighter and airy.
Basic Colors – White and black is considered as base, accent colors are sometimes grey, marine blue or a brown shade. In conclusion, the shades are belongs to the shame shades.
Scale Back – Less is more, so focus on having a clean space rather than filling it up with decor. Same comes to the walls, and speaking of wall. Scandi’s are very into typography these days, effortless prints that makes a subtle statement in a minimalistic home.
Materials – Scandi’s like to incorporate elements from nature, but also adding other materials such as cement like the table on the picture. It crates a nice contrast yet balances out great. A branch of wood or wicker basket add a more rustic-look to complete the Scandinavian finish.
Less is more – Functionality wins before anything, a truly Scandinavian interior is livable. So sunlight and fresh air are appreciated elements of décor. Once again, declutter as much as possible.
